Bo Zhuangyuan Cake, commonly known as 「Bo Cake」, is a unique folk cultural activity that is popular in southern Fujian by rolling dice. According to legend, Hong Xu, the general of Zheng Chenggong’s battalion who was born in Hongmen Port (Houfeng Port) in Kinmen, invented the Bo Zhuangyuan cake game in order to stabilize the morale of the officers and soldiers staying in Xiamen and comfort their homesickness when Zheng Chenggong led the attack on Jinling. Playing around on the Mid-Autumn Festival has been passed down to this day and has become a folk entertainment activity in Kinmen that is appropriate for the Mid-Autumn Festival. The rules of the game have changed a lot with the times, but most of them are based on the version of six dice. You only need to prepare a big bowl, and the players in the game take turns to throw the dice. Different points are arranged with corresponding 「color names」. Such as: one show (Xiucai), two moves (juren), three reds and four advances (jinshi), tie (second place), etc., as well as the most difficult throw of six reds, that is, the biggest winner-the champion!
The activity of 「Mid-Autumn Festival Bake」 has been circulating for more than 300 years. Gambling was strictly prohibited in Kinmen during the war-field government affairs, so the custom of 「Bow Bing」 once disappeared.
